Privacy policy

GameYomi for Windows, from the Microsoft Store or from gabek.dev. Updated October 9, 2026.

GameYomi has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. It reads the text on your screen on your PC and keeps what it reads on your PC. It goes online only for the things listed under “What goes online”.

On your PC

  • Your screen. While reading is on, GameYomi captures the game’s part of the screen and recognizes its text with the text recognition built into Windows, on your PC. Captures stay in memory and are never uploaded. The only ones saved are snapshots you ask for, as images in GameYomi’s data folder.
  • Keyboard, mouse and controller. GameYomi watches for the buttons you bind in its settings, so they work while a game is in front. Other keys are never recorded, stored or sent. While reading, it can hold back the game’s mouse clicks (and, if you turn it on, its keys) so they go to the text instead of the game.
  • Reading history. The lines it read, with the game’s program name and the time, so you can find a sentence later.
  • Settings and a log. Your settings, the games you read in, and a log of what the app did, for troubleshooting. The log only leaves your PC if you send it to me.
  • License and trial. Your license key and this PC’s activation, and when your free trial started (also in the Windows registry, under your user account).

All of it is in GameYomi’s data folder (tray icon › Open data folder). Uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes it; for the download from gabek.dev, delete the folder.

What goes online

License checks, with Polar
Activating a license, checking it again (about once a week) or deactivating it sends Polar the license key, a label for this PC made from its computer name, and GameYomi’s version. Polar also sees your IP address. You buy on Polar’s checkout page, not in the app. Polar is the merchant of record and shares your email address and order with me, so I can help with your license and refunds.
Getting the Migaku extension
If Migaku is installed in Google Chrome, GameYomi copies the extension’s files from Chrome’s folder on your PC (the Microsoft Store version asks first). It reads nothing else of Chrome’s: no history, cookies or passwords. If it isn’t, GameYomi asks before downloading the extension from the Chrome Web Store, whose servers (Google) see your IP address.
Migaku
The Migaku extension runs inside GameYomi as it does in Chrome, and talks to Migaku’s servers under Migaku’s privacy policy: your Migaku login, the words you look up, the cards you make and the text it parses, which here is the game text GameYomi shows. You type your Migaku password into Migaku’s own page; GameYomi never reads or stores it. GameYomi is unofficial and not affiliated with Migaku.
Fonts
The text drawn over the game uses fonts from Google Fonts, which sees your IP address when they load.
Microsoft
GameYomi’s windows run on Microsoft Edge WebView2, part of Windows, which follows your Windows diagnostic data settings (Microsoft’s privacy statement). A Windows language pack for text recognition, if you choose to install one, comes from Microsoft. The Microsoft Store installs and updates the Store version.
Updates, download version only
The version from gabek.dev looks for a new version on gabek.dev every 6 hours, and downloads it when you click Update. gabek.dev is served by Cloudflare, which sees your IP address. The Microsoft Store version never does this.

Nothing else leaves your PC. I don’t sell or share anyone’s data.

Your choices

  • Deactivate this PC in GameYomi’s license window, or email me to do it.
  • Ask me what I hold about you (your order from Polar and any emails) or ask me to delete it: hello@gabek.dev.

GameYomi isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their data.

If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date.
